Chocolate Blueberry Banana Power Smoothie
I've refined this recipe little by little over time to balance flavor, nutirition and texture in a way that I can throw it together daily in five minutes or less (including blending time). The inspiration comes from my parents' favorite frozen custard "concrete" -- banana blueberry flavor.

  2. Creating the texture: Place remaining ingredients into blender, and blend quickly on medium speed; 2-4 seconds should be fine. You're really just chopping up ingredients at this point.

  3. Pour into glass and serve immediately, or take with you.

Recipe Notes

If you don't like your smoothies with a lot of texture, include the blueberries in the initial smoothie mix. You can put the bananas and chia in that mixture, but know that they will both increase the mixture's thickness.

Trying to keep your system cleansed, but need a break from all the greens? This one's a bit more mild, with emphasis on the orangey, high beta-carotene carrots and butternut squash.

Ingredients
  1. 4 carrots, whole
  2. 1 cup peeled butternut squash
  3. 1/2 cucumber, roughly chopped and leave peel on
Optional
  1. Half-inch piece of ginger
  2. Shake of cinnamon
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 4-6 ice cubes
Instructions
  1. Prep all ingredients, then place into Vitamix container. Blend on high for 45-60 seconds. Serve immediately.
Notes
  1. This recipe was originally designed to be made with a juicer. By making it with the Vitamix, you're retaining the fiber, but it also comes out much thicker. Add water to suit your own desired thickness.
