Chocolate Blueberry Banana Power Smoothie
I've refined this recipe little by little over time to balance flavor, nutirition and texture in a way that I can throw it together daily in five minutes or less (including blending time).
The inspiration comes from my parents' favorite frozen custard "concrete" -- banana blueberry flavor.
Instructions
Creating the smoothie:
Pour/place all ingredients EXCEPT chia seeds, banana and blueberries into blender. Blend at top speed for one minute. Turn off.
Creating the texture:
Place remaining ingredients into blender, and blend quickly on medium speed; 2-4 seconds should be fine. You're really just chopping up ingredients at this point.
Pour into glass and serve immediately, or take with you.
Recipe Notes
If you don't like your smoothies with a lot of texture, include the blueberries in the initial smoothie mix. You can put the bananas and chia in that mixture, but know that they will both increase the mixture's thickness.

Jamba Juice's Banana Berry Smoothie
2013-07-16 08:03:33
Serves 2
Jamba Juice is one of the biggest smoothie/juice chains in the country. (And they only use Vitamix!) Here's a look under the (blender) lid at one of their most popular smoothies.
- 3/4 cup apple juice
- 3/4 cup Kern's strawberry nectar
- 2/3 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 banana, sliced
- 1 scoop raspberry sherbet
- 1 scoop vanilla nonfat frozen yogurt
- 1 cup ice
- Blend all ingredients on high for 45-60 seconds. Serve immediately.
- With the juice, fruit, and frozen desserts, there's a fair amount of sugar in this one. Consider this recipe a dessert smoothie, and invite over a friend to share it.
- A big banana berry thanks to www.SeaSaltWithFood.com for the great, fruity pic.

Emeril's Mango Lassi
2013-07-05 16:18:14
Serves 2
Mango Lassi is a traditional Indian beverage that combines mango, sugar, plain yogurt, and a few other ingredients depending on who's making it. This is one from Food Network superstar, Emeril Lagasse.
- 1 1/2 cups diced fresh mango
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 1/4 teaspoons rose water
- 1 1/2 cups plain yogurt
- Remove Vitamix lid and combine the rose water, orange juice, mango, ice, and honey. Replace lid and turn on Variable 1, then increase to high speed. Blend until well-combined; roughly 30 seconds. Add the yogurt and process until frothy. Check mixture around 45 seconds. Consistency should be thick, but pourable.
- For a vegan version, try adding either soy or almond yogurt in place of milk-based yogurt. For an added twist, use 1/2 Roma tomato and 1/4 medium avocado without skin. The tomato will give the lassi its characteristic tanginess, and the avocado will help with the creaminess.

Whole Fruit Margarita
2013-07-01 21:52:10
Serves 3
If you're going to have an adult beverage, why not do it on the healthy side? This fruit-ful take on the traditional margarita cuts WAY down on the sugar.
- 1/4 cup water
- 6 ounces tequila
- 2 ounces Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
- 1 orange, peeled and halved
- 1 lime, peeled and halved, plus another lime*
- 1 lemon, peeled and halved
- 6 tbsp agave nectar or raw sugar
- 6 cups ice cubes
- 1/2 cup salt*
- (First step: Create salt-rimmed glasses.*)
- Place all ingredients into Vitamix container as listed and place lid on. Blend just under a minute, using tamper to push ingredients into blade as necessary. Divide equally into salt-rimmed glasses*.
- *To rim the glasses with salt, you need two things; 1) two containers that are at least 1/2" high that will fit the diameter of the glasses, and 2) another lime. Start by juicing the lime (cut it in half and squeeze into the 1/2" container). Next, pour the salt around the inner edge of the second container.
- This process takes two steps. Begin by turning the glass upside down, then dipping it into the lime juice and turning it a few inches either direction. Then lift it straight up. You're essentially creating the "glue" that will hold the salt. After the lime juice, immediately dip the the lime juice-rimmed glass into the salt, turn a couple inches, then lift up. Then immediately turn right-side up.
- And keep in mind, do this BEFORE pouring the finished margarita blend into the glass. : )
- Additional Note: To release extra juice from the lime, place onto cutting board or countertop and roll back and forth, exerting medium pressure on lime.
